Our History

Ken and Mack
Mack Scott born in San Diego California and Ken Baron born in the United Kingdom both of whom are professional educators, have been partnered for over 10 years now. They consider their co-founding of BWMTSC in the Long Beach Gay and Lesbian Center in 2003 to be one of their most memorable and celebrated moments together. Although the first meeting was attended by only a handful of interested black and white men, the chapter has grown and flourished to be a close knit, supportive, social/political grass roots organization. Many loving relationships and close friendships have since grown from the organization's inception.

The slow and dubious resurrection of the once sizeable organization began as a reaction to a rather cold welcome given to Ken and Mack by a local African-American men’s support group. Ken was told that the group was for black men only and was asked not to attend the next meeting. Mack had heard about the NABWMT organization and decided to form a local chapter of their own in the Long Beach area. The purpose of the new chapter was to offer a place where interracial couples could feel welcome, wanted and loved. It took a while and a lot of hard work for the group to finally catch on, but Ken and Mack's dedication and determination won out in the end. Within months of it inception, pot lucks, picnics, large group outings and movie nights became very popular and soon the group grew to a loyal membership of well over 70.

At the NABWMT National Convention in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Ken and Mack agreed to host the 2006 Long Beach convention. The convention was hugely successful, earning accolades awards and revenue for both the BWMTSC chapter and the NABWMT as well.

Ken and Mack (today known as Ken and Mack Scott-Baron) were at long last joined in holy wedlock on August 9, 2008 in a small ceremony surrounded by family and close friends. They are just one of a few lucky couples in California to marry before the passage of Proposition 8 (anti-gay marriage), therefore closing the door for the rest of us. Ken and Mack still serve with the dedication today as BWMTSC’s co-chairmen. We, the members of BWMTSC, are very proud of Ken and Mack's accomplishments, as we are all the better for knowing them and having been touched by their mutual love, belief in our organization and the profound love that they have for each other.

It is our sincere hope that you will come and join our ever-growing and rewarding organization; where love, friendship and inclusion of all men are always found. It all began with just two.
